-1810 | Thomas Jefferson became a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses. He designed a mansion called Monticello, which he retired to later in his life. He wrote a political pamphlet, A Summary View of the Rights of British America. It stated that the basis of the natural rights theory. He became a delegate to the Continental Congress to revise the Articles of Confederation He drafted the Declaration of Independence, which was the sent to King George III, to declare the United States independence from Britain. Thomas Jefferson was elected the governor of Virginia. He was elected the Minister to the French Court Thomas Jefferson composed the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom. It exclaimed that all religions should be excepted in the states and that the government should not select one religion that would be practiced by everyone that lived there. He was the Secretary of State, during George Washington's presidential term. Thomas Jefferson founded the Democratic political party. Due to an error in the Constitution, Thomas Jefferson was put as John Adams Vice President in Adams one and only term as the second president. He was elected president of the United States, as the third president. Thomas Jefferson became the president of the University of Virginia, after he established/ founded it. |
